T4/T5/T5R Naming Conventions
References: Memorandum, Office of the Assistant Secretary Manpower and Reserve Affairs (SAMR), 12 January 2016, subject: Army Federal Investigative Standards Implementation.
On 1 October 2016, the PSI-CoE website and processes will be updated to reflect the new Federal Investigative Standards (FIS) naming conventions, consistent with the referenced memorandum, as follows:
- The BI naming convention will change to reflect the new Tier 4 (T4) background investigation;
- The SSBI naming convention will change to reflect Tier 5 (T5) background investigation; and
- The PPR and SSBI-PR naming conventions will change to reflect Tier 5R (T5R) background investigation.
- The T5R investigation requires a FBI Fingerprint (FP) check if the previous investigation(s) contained unclassifiable fingerprints.
- It is our intent to phase out the references to the older investigation types (T4/BI, T5/SSBI, and T5R/SSBI-PR), as a part of this phase-out we ask that you become familiar with the new naming conventions.
Should you have specific questions regarding the types of investigation to request from the PSI-CoE, please refer to your Higher Headquarters/Command-specific policy guidance.
